A New LGBTQ Walking Tour of Leicester…

Building on the success I had with writing and producing an LGBTQ Walking Tour of Nottingham, I recently researched and developed a new one for the wonderful city of Leicester. The downloadable PDF contains a map and a route with 16 points of interest to stop and learn a bit more about our queer past.

The site is now up and live, though it may undergo a few tweaks in advance of its official launch for February’s LGBTQ History Month. LeicesterLGBTQWalk is filled with interesting stories, with special thanks to research undertaken by historian, Jo Somerset and partner, Liz Clarke into the every day lives of some of Leicester’s gay inhabitants. Taking just over an hour, the tour takes you in a circular route, starting and ending at The Dover Castle.

During the Covid-19 lockdowns I was inspired to fill some of my spare time researching my local queer cultural history. Having studied at Nottingham Trent University during the late 90’s I was lucky enough to experience the richness of the Leicester scene. It is this that encouraged me to research and produce this second walking tour.

Although the walk can be self-led, I look forward to leading a face to face version of the walking tour… stay tuned for more information soon…
